Quick comparison

Infrared or Traditional?

Neither is automatically “better.” The right choice depends on the heat you enjoy, your available power and how many people will use it.

Choose infrared for lower operating temperatures, simple controls and frequent personal recovery sessions.
Choose traditional for hotter air, rocks, steam capability and a more classic sauna experience.
Choose ThermoWood when premium outdoor durability and a modern architectural look matter most.
Feature Far Infrared Traditional / Steam
Heat style Radiant panels warm the body directly Heater warms the room and sauna rocks
Typical feel Gentler air temperature Hotter, classic sauna atmosphere
Electrical Several compact models use 110–120V Larger heaters commonly require 220V or wood-burning setup
Best match Solo use, couples, recovery and frequent sessions Families, social use and traditional sauna fans

The Sauna Is Only Half the Project.

Summit helps coordinate the practical details that turn a product delivery into a finished backyard retreat.

Site review: footprint, access path, slope and final placement.
Foundation guidance: compacted gravel, pavers or concrete depending on the model and site.
Delivery coordination: timing, unloading access and installation scheduling.
Assembly: professional setup based on the selected sauna and approved site.
Electrical planning: required outlet, amperage and electrician scope identified before install.

Common questions

Before You Order

These answers cover the most common planning questions. Product-specific power and foundation requirements should always be confirmed before installation.

Is delivery and installation included?
Standard delivery and installation are coordinated within Summit’s service areas when the site meets the quoted access and foundation requirements. Electrical upgrades, concrete work, cranes, permits, HOA approvals and unusual access are separate unless specifically included in your written order.
What kind of foundation does an outdoor sauna need?
The sauna needs a level, stable and well-draining base. Depending on the product and property, this may be a properly prepared compacted gravel pad, pavers or a concrete slab. Summit confirms the recommended footprint before installation.
Will I need an electrician?
Many compact infrared models use 110–120V service, while larger traditional heaters often require 220V and a dedicated circuit. The product card and product page show the listed electrical requirement, but a licensed electrician should confirm that your home and final placement are ready.
How quickly can my sauna be installed?
Timing depends on product availability, freight transit, site readiness and installer scheduling. Once the sauna is on site and the foundation and electrical work are ready, many kit-style saunas can be assembled efficiently, but Summit will confirm the expected timeline for your exact model.
What is the difference between infrared and traditional sauna heat?
Infrared panels produce radiant heat and are commonly used at lower room temperatures. Traditional sauna heaters warm the room and sauna stones, creating the hotter air and optional steam experience many people associate with Finnish-style sauna bathing.
Can a sauna stay outdoors year-round?
The models on this page are marketed for outdoor use, but long-term performance still depends on correct installation, drainage, exterior maintenance and following the manufacturer’s weather-protection instructions.
